working part time as a pain in the butt

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

When I did read the line above the first time I had a good laugh about it. I liked it that much that I immediately did store it away somewhere within my brain and later on I recognized that for some "hopefully" just tiny little reason I would not fit bad into such job a description.

Being aware that I’m a difficult person to deal with sometimes I generally do not mind someone coming up with the honest and open statement that I’m for more than one reason being able to drive folks nuts.  Often later on people being used (or forced) to work with me do tell me that my way to work by strictly enforcing quality and timelines often turns out somewhat tiring for them. But finally me re-querying everyone and everything again and again until I’m convinced by facts often does appear as the ultimate spleen.

So yeah, working as a pain in the butt seems to be some part of my personality … at least part time. ;-)

So Folks! Whenever you see such a job offered …. tell me about! I’m da man for it …. :-)

Works like a charm?

I couldn’t say that Wordpress is my most favorite CMS system at all. For my feeling it is a stable and reliable, but also flat and basic entry CMS system. Showing you what is possible when doing websites and working with a database in the back. But not really challenging at the end.

Ok?!  Perhaps I should be more carefully with writing my opinion here as for not everyone is used to work with databases like me. But honestly! Often I’m just not able to understand about the issues other people do report about … 3 days more of that RTFM and they would feel ashamed about having asked first.

But more important - While others do actually fail with, the Wordpress folks really do a great job with their product updates.

Yesterday I got told by my newsreader, as also by the running Wordpress itself, that there is a new Wordpress version 2.6 available. Today now I used exactly 10 minutes to update one of my own sites with it and everything (really everything!!) did work smooth again instantly.

That is what I call "ensuring" quality and a real carefully spreading out of versions and product updates. Keep up the good work boys! You’re doing a great job others could learn from.

Nontheless it needs me to decide about another more reliable and stable CMS able to support more complex sites soon. :-|

The new Joomla Version 1.5

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Recently I got in contact with a friendly Canadian talking and sitting about the also recently published new Joomla Version 1.5. Even I’m in general a big fan of this free CMS system, I have to say that I’m more or less disappointed about that new “as stable” offered Version 1.5 available for general download.

The Installation completed like a charm. Easily installed and started the new Admin Interface offers a very nice, clean, well arranged and likely look … but thats it at the end. The Migration Assistant did nearly immediately show me the white flag, telling me about some serious trouble occured. And even after porting the content my own, the new version surprised with several severe issues.

The new legacy mode is far away from doing it’s job and the frontend login problems finally made me stopping all experiments to port an old Version 1.1 site into this new version. As it looks for me, those guys have to do an extra loop for quality insurance issues, even the new published interims Version 1.5.1 wasn’t able to fix.

Hi Guys! I’m still with you and appreciate and like your work …. It is just that I will now wait a bit before I start again with Joomla Version 1.5.
