Often it does not need much …. and as more unexpected it is, the more fun and joy it will bring.
On Monday an oversea friend of mine had her birthday. Now even living a few thousand kilometer away I think about them as good and close friends. So for sure postal services had to do some work (nothing special, just that bit of attention making the difference) lately.
Nontheless I had the idea to give her a call and so basic math dealing with time delays did start. When can you call someone at earliest on a normal working monday? Will there be a public holiday you could disturb on?
Anyway, in case there is a will some clever mind will make it through all and using a phone really isn’t a challenge at all … at least for most of us.
To dial the number was easy and then the tension reached the maximum …. to eases immediately when the exactly right person did take the call! No need to say we had a quick and nice chat then.
Just a few valuable and rare minutes though. Day had already started there… But ended with the given promise to do soon again…
It is so much of a difference to hear and speak with someone, even when you frequently stay in contact by email or chat.
But thats not the major aspect of all. At same stage it might not even possible to talk for some reason e.q. the missing ability to speak a language for example.
Often just small things make a big difference. This one second expiring the “unexpected” does make the difference. One day I still remember very well, I opened the letters shipped two weeks ago and nearly about 14000Km away. Something small for sure, but intended to honor friendship …. until today I keep it like a treasure. At least for me it is ONE!

All today I’m working together and for a company running a real big application move from remote. When ask about in front they said that they will do all the planning their selves. Great I thought, but stayed dumb not going the risk making them grumpy.
At the end I really got some planning two days ago and after a few iteration of asking and answering even I thought we could work with it.
Today now work started rough as for a few preconditions weren’t ready and done, but after half an hour we were back in plan and everything looked fine. Just "looking" and "being" are two different things ….
The few minor hurdles came up for sure during the morning, but this is normal and nothing to mind and worry about in such a project. Even with the best planning in advance you can’t think about all and it depends on the coordinator and/or players to cruise and steer around.
But finally the best of all happend around lunchtime. Right around noon we had planned to stop some application and export/re-import a real big database. So I dialed in into a phone conference as scheduled and found myself alone there.
Right 15 minutes later the accountant of the customer dialed in and asked " What are we doing right now?" and I answered "Waiting?!" Perplexed He asked why and I said "Personally I guess your guys are at lunch … hopefully food is good there …."
Then there was silence!!

Today I have the feeling to walk through an overall easy day. After a few days of hectic and stress things seems to ease and calm all today.
A customer "from hell" who dragged me now for years is nearly finally handed over to someone else and all the phone calls we actually have about his migration are very relaxed and easy. They are filled up with terms like great, glad you can help, thanks god you remember … We even started again joking with each other while talking …. And in just a few weeks it will be done and past.
Not sure I really will feel sad then though.
As an update for those who aren’t aware. Germany has won the soccer game against Turkey and will now fight for the European Soccer Championship versus Spain on Sunday. I followed both semi- final games and have to confess that the Spanish Guys did a more as excellent job beating down the Russian Team 3:0 yesterday.
I’m sure it will need them all all to give for our boy on sunday and I’m very much pressing thumbs for them to win.
But looking back I’m aware it was another news, highly await by me, reaching me yesterday by sms and finally making me seeing this week as easy, special, happy and overall positive at all.
Ok then! Guess it’s now time for me to think about an early weekend, starting to prepare myself cheering for our boy on sunday evening, for them going for the CUP and bringing it home!!

As already mentioned,, this week was filled with a lot of work issues. A bit of travelling, meetings, phone calls, chats and generally chances to pick up information. At the end a time, keeping my brain very busy by permanently processing all incoming info.
Since weeks - better lets say month - I had the feeling that there is something in the air. Some chance, some possibility or perhaps just an idea I wasn’t able to get instantly.
By knowing my brain likes to work as some information collector permanently storing away all input for later use, I’m aware that I’m not always be able to see the ‘real’ point instantly. But it is the unconscious part of my mind taking care about me being able to remember person and context within I got an information.
Some talking here, some info there and my brain constantly fitting it together … and suddenly I could see this week!
The occasion, the opportunity and the way to "speak" it to happens. Sitting in a meeting on wednesday, talking with the right guys, about the right topic, exactly at the right moment and it was there. Finally and clear for me!
I really appreciate situations like that, when I have the feeling about being me finally seeing things clear!
Sure there is still an ‘if’ and a ‘when’, but the idea is born. And perhaps in a few weeks I can tell more … and then, then I’m sure about it will become a very interesting time for sure! We will see.

Sure, it is a nice and interesting thing living in information age and being able to communicate with friends, buddies and pals around the globe instantly, Running reliable friendships over distances my grandma would have thought about as impossible. Getting all benefits out of technologies like phone, fax, sms, email and instant messaging by enjoying todays advantages like an internet- or phone flatrate. Being informed, in touch, involved and close by … Thats the deal!
On the other hand I wonder how our parents and grand parents would have coped with such a hectically business day like we are used to have today. Sure there were deadlines also, projects, time critical things and challenges in general to finish, to succeed and overcome as well …….. and and and
But on days like today, when I start working and nearly not having time to read and answer all my emails until the first scheduled phone conference does start (not speaking about the first morning coffee at this stage) I feel somewhat stressed to be honest.
You are aware this might be around 8:10 am?! Feeling stressed already :-/
And this first call is instantly continued with the next customer calling, in between an instant messenger messages is popping up and an email with a 20 pages attachment arrives needed to get studied before lunchtime turns up ….. Then I really wished I would sit on a lonely island with my feet in the water trying to catch some fish, later on collecting some coconuts, preparing some "message in a bottle" ….. and perhaps next week starting to train my own carrier pigeon perhaps. :-/
Thanks god not every day is like today (and the two other phone conferences already scheduled during afternoon will also certainly end somewhen) :-|
