Windows 7

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

Now it got finally unveiled! The name of the new announce Vista successor is….. tatataaaaahhh Windows 7 - How impressive!!

I really do not like to know how many marketing guys, consultants and even high paid Microsoft folks were sitting about this decisions calling the new Operating System of Microsoft just and plainly Windows 7.

Back to the roots? Giving up all those tries to sell something mainly unsellable by giving it some fancy new name?

Hey!! My system is now running on sexy new Microsoft Vista SP1! And I really like it! It has this rather sexy and neat option scrolling through open windows and another million new features I can’t remember to find and I might never explore again, as for I’m only using it for searching the net, answering my emails, some chatting and really rarely burning some music CDs (for sure a backup copy of my prior bought original soundtrack) for the car…….

How many "Operation System" do we really need? Another 98 new features no one will ever use in daily business?

At a time companies are refusing to upgrade and the actual OS is just able to get sold bundled with some new hardware the question might be allowed. Do we need it? Do we need to upgrade? Why should we upgrade?

Just to figure out the OS does now need more resources and our System (bought last year) does urgently need a memory upgrade to be able to deal again with all those new animations and gimmicks clever Microsoft Developers have invented for us?

Ok, I’m just naming Microsoft here, which is unfair for sure as for other companies do the same …. It’s their job to write and invent new things and exactly the stuff they are making their money with. But thinking about that all, I really ask myself how to think about their actual approach calling their new Windows version just and simply Windows 7.

Perhaps being just honest and naming it purely by what it is? Just another new upgrade of this worldwide, well know and stable settled Microsoft OS for Personal Computer based on X86 architecture?

Will this give more trust to the customer? Will this now making them more wishing to upgrade to it?

Sooner or later we will see …. And I can’t prevent offering that I’m very interested in getting some feedback soon, on how the market will react on that.

The Mojave Experiment

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Following some news, Microsoft today has unveiled a site reporting about some so called Mojave Experiment.

Regarding to their own statements they recently invited 120 well known critics of Windows Vista and showed them a 10 minute video about new features of their brand new operating system development project with codename "Mojave".

By their own word 90 percent of the probants shall have directly felt happy and excited about all new features shown in this video…. features of an operating system which does not even exisit!

In reality they had shown them already exisiting features of Windows Vista everyone can already use today …. :-/

Sure this is not much more than a "cheap" advertisement approach with the aim to push there still not really accepted Windows XP successor Vista. But on the other had it shows dramatically the value of some critique - it’s easy to write what people does like to hear ….

More about the experiment background shall be published soon at the Mojave Experiment pages in a few days.

Even it is a funny idea, I’m personally not sure the world does need such tricks at least used more than one time - but perhaps  I’m the only one thinking that way?!

VisionApp Remote Desktop

Monday, June 9th, 2008

I’m not sure how many of you have the need to frequently work on remote Windows Server Systems via RDP protocol?! And like me feeling tired about the ususal Microsoft RemoteDesktopConnections Tool (mstsc) does just store up the last 5 used host connections??

But there is help for sure! Since a while I work with another tool, but silly me forget to write about! An easy to get download of VisionApp Remote Desktop will solve your problem. It offers you to store all your used connections as bookmarks well sorted at your choice. It even allows you several simultaneously connections to different servers at one time with cut&paste between.

Although the actual and recent version is no longer freeware, the prior version 1.5 is still available and for my feeling really does the job. No need for more!

In case you should have trouble downloading it there, you can also use an alternate download from where I got my copy once. Enjoy!!

FlyakiteOSX

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Things which the world does not need!! That was my first thought about when I got aware about FlyakiteOSX.
But it would have need someone else and not me … not feeling tempted to play with it!

What is it this FlyakiteOSX? From principle it is a really clever piece of software you can install on top of a Windows XP or Windows Vista giving it the look and feel of Apple’s OSX … the actual version for sure!

Apple and therefore Apple products are generally swimming on a big hype wave here in Germany actually. For sure that comes from their clever marketing and things like the iPod and the iPhone now being in every mouth, but also MACs do have some serious renaissance actually.

Anyway, I’m sure it is me being some technical nerd at the end, asfor the reason that it needed exactly a few minutes for me to decide about to install it on some old spare system I had stored away in the basement …

So a new plain installation of Windows XP and an Office was done quickly! And an installation of Safari 3.1 for Windows to give it the final ultimate touch …. and I updated the system with this FlyakiteOSX 3.5 (be aware the first offered download did not work for me, 2nd was fine).

The installation went smooth and after the reboot the system came up telling me frankly and free it would now be OSX … ROFL

It is for sure just a gag, some fake …. and I really do not know, nor want to decide about, whether or not the world does need that stuff?!
But it’s for sure some genial piece of code and I lift my hat (symbolical for sure) giving honor to the guys who have written it.

Please go on with your great work, showing companies like Microsoft and Apple what can be done at the end … when human mind insist to do!!
