What Women want

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Yesterday I have seen the movie What Women want again. Hey! I’m aware it is a "chick’s flick" and I must have seen it already up to 4 or 5 times. But I really don’t mind seeing it again and I really do it!

I like seeing Mel Gibson as an actor in general and I’m also fascinated by the idea behind the movie itself. Reading the mind of  a woman … What a fascinating idea! Ask yourself about how helpful this would and could be sometimes for you?

Seeing it again, I always forced to smile about seeing Nick’s helpless tries to deal with a grown up 15 years old daughter. Sadly I don’t have one, but given such a sweet daughter I guess I would do everything for her. And last but not least, but ssssssshhht about…..  I adore Helen Hunt in this movie!! Isn’t she a most lovely and beautiful woman and actor?

But now and finally! What did I really want to write about today?!

Have you recognised the Apple Logo on Nick’s notebook in the movie? I have to confess that I’ve never got aware about before. But it is just plainly wrong and odd, shown upside down on this old Apple Powerbooks when opened!

How stupid does that look in movies seeing the well know Apple Logo shown, Faux Pas top down, while other brands and symbols are fine and easy to recognise and read?

Today on actual Macbooks and MacBook PROs this has changed. I guess Apple’s marketing folks got aware about their earlier Faux Pas and turned it later on to appear finally correct in movies and commercials now. Although I couldn’t say it’s much better now …

When I grasp my MBP and try to open it, I’m feeling tempted and cheated to open it from the wrong side irritated by the fact that the Apple on top has to appear wrong to me. Perhaps I should email Apple and tell them my idea about using a hologram instead which would be able to automatically flipping in the direction you need?! ;-)

Couldn’t resist anymore ….

I guess most of you now know out of my earlier postings that I recently bought a MBP.

Me and a MPB? Now this sounds curious indeed and there were for sure a few curious view and question I had to stand. But I really wanted to find out about why others think about them as better, by enjoying something new at the same time.

Not really being sure about I later would like it, deciding for a specific model was a someway hard job for me.

Wanting it portable and being aware that buying too small or modestly never is a good choice, the smaller Macbook wasn’t a choice for me ever. On the other hand this large and heavy 17" chopping board seemed a bit to oversized to me. Thinking about to carry it together with cameras and stuff all time during vacation trip gave me some nightmares for sure.

So I finally focusing on a 15" model and looking into the specs, I decided about it is not worth to buy the bigger one. Everything added it more, except the video card memory, easily could added in later by myself easily.

So happy with me and my choise I finally bought the smaller 15" MBP and right from the first second I liked and enjoyed working with it. Getting familiar with it was easy doing and therewith set and found I recently decided to switch over with my video cutting projects to it as well.

Knowing about memory would become an issue then, I checked the Apple pages for more RAM… and found out about their horrible :-| prices!! …..  Checking specs of RAM chips I quickly was sure about normal SO-DIMM would do. So finally yesterday on my way home I made a d-tour visiting a local hardware shop and buying two normal 2GB 667 SO-DIMMs (less than half the Apple offer).

Shortly half a hour later they were fit in and working. ;-)

Now (and for sure it would have to be someone else not me) not being able to resist digging deeper as well, I had a closer look at things. And I have to confess that not only the visible parts of the MBP are well designed. Looking behind and voting it, it is a "puter" … not more and not less, but the quality and manufactoring standard is high and … as a friend of me said once …. it’s a sexy feeling to own and work with one! ;-)

Splendid Conditions

Monday, April 28th, 2008

This past weekend was just great - sun, mild temperatures and no single drop of rain at all!

Right on friday I tried to finish all really necessary task getting the freedom to be able to use all the time of the coming two days. Especially this year with a dragging rainy and cold April the wish to stay outside and enjoy nice conditions is strong.

So on saturday morning right after breakfast I went for my biker gear (you know? that “real bike” stuff), dressed up and move my Suzi out of the garage. Heading into the nowhere without having any idea where the street will lead me I ended up in scratching the border between France and Germany a few time, having a real enjoyable coffee and cake in some “outside” restaurant to finally return during late late afternoon more or less tired but overall happy with myself, the day itself and the world in general! :-)

Nevertheless there were the need for some grocery shopping left and so I finally did take the car driving to some supermarket and ending up in an bigger electronic store (huh … thats late evening shopping until 10pm ;-) ) looking again for such an MacBook Air …. duh :-| I guess sooner or later I will end up with such a thingy …

Then again on sunday I was keen to repeat my other day adventure again. So I directly heading to my Suzi again which I even hadn’t brought back into the garage for the night and left home straight away.

This time my way and the street did lead me into the so called “Old World”! It is a lovely and quiet piece on earth. Mostly covered with beautiful farmland and broken up with smaller and bigger patches of forest, a little bit back in time compared with the more urbanised and industrial area here where I live.

It was such a wonderful day that I even nearly got lost about cruising all these small and narrow little countryside roads forward and backwards for ages and had to use my map to be able to find my direction out of this area finally heading home in the evening! Such day should never end!
