A sunny Day

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Today we have a fresh (no longer really cold) and overall sunny day here. I’m not sure about it is the only reason, but I’m in an overall happy mood today.
So far there wasn’t something really exciting but from time to time I like smooth days just floating along without hassle or excitements.

Since a while it will the also the first evening I’m not planned to do something already and I hope about me will be able to dig into a few things I’m curious about since a while and keen to learn and understand about them. Yeah, I know …. you might think about that as odd …. but I hardly really can slow down not giving my brain something feeling fancy about. Even it might be just something to read and study about.

Today my brother told me that he has ordered some new gadget for him and that is another thing I’m looking forward too, as for it will open the door to some new technical challange tweaking it directly after it arrives. ;-)

Yeah, yeah …. no need to tell me. I’m a nerd when it comes to technical things, I know about. Give me something to play with and I’m happy :-)

Translations

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Last two days I did translations for a friend. Usually I do from German language into English (by for sure being aware I make mistakes!), but this time it was the other way round. And honestly, I felt about it as extremely difficult to do for quit a few different reasons at the same time.

Not I would mind such work! In a difference to that I felt honored about my friend having all that trust in my "language" abilities and liked to do this little favor for him. But being trained the other way round thinking backwards is quit a big difference.

I still remember the days I’ve started to write and talk in English. It was years after school and Ansleigh (my first victim) a rather friendly and nice online friend of me, certainly must have felt physical and mental pain reading through my lines. Today after years we are still in contact and even we are both busy people, from time to time we do pass us on some short and friendly greetings. In between she is a proud mum of two and taking the chance here I wish her and new baby Erin all the best for coming over the actual difficult time (Erin was born far way to early) soon.

But speaking about translations I still owe you the reasons about, why it was hard for me to do.

Today more being used to using English, I no longer think in German and start to translate before speaking it out. Even I do for sure not understand every term, I usually get or know it’s meaning and go using words without to think whether or not they might be the best one to use. My friends often tell me I have a few very characteristic "issues" in my English, but they nearly do like that … nearly … You get it?! :-|

But the most difficult challenge I had to go through was knowing about I would write something with a real serious business background, talking about places and details I have nor seen nor even talked about before. It were just English (excellent English) descriptions used with the idea to advertise something to sell.

Boy that was rather strange. How would you describe a place you don’t know in real?! ;-)

Technical Challenges

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

It seems to be a fact that I love technical challenges. Give me some problem within an area I’m feeling familiar with and I will be happy about trying to solve it. And if necessary even to carry together the knowledge it needs to figure it out finally.

Have you seen the movie Apollo 13?

Gentlemen!! I do not want to hear about something is intended to use for. In a difference to that I want to know about the best way using it to solve our problem. Failure is not an option!!

Now I’m usually not really challenged by such serious crises. But given such a ‘normal’ challenge or a friend needing a helping hand like today and the little boy in me will always feel keen about discovering the world around and with a bit of luck to hopefully figure it out.

Finally seeing it working at the end … Thats Tops!! my friend. ;-)

Little Surprises

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Often it does not need much …. and as more unexpected it is, the more fun and joy it will bring.

On Monday an oversea friend of mine had her birthday. Now even living a few thousand kilometer away I think about them as good and close friends. So for sure postal services had to do some work (nothing special, just that bit of attention making the difference) lately.

Nontheless I had the idea to give her a call and so basic math dealing with time delays did start. When can you call someone at earliest on a normal working monday? Will there be a public holiday you could disturb on?

Anyway, in case there is a will some clever mind will make it through all and using a phone really isn’t a challenge at all … at least for most of us.

To dial the number was easy and then the tension reached the maximum …. to eases immediately when the exactly right person did take the call! No need to say we had a quick and nice chat then.

Just a few valuable and rare minutes though. Day had already started there… But ended with the given promise to do soon again…

It is so much of a difference to hear and speak with someone, even when you frequently stay in contact by email or chat.

But thats not the major aspect of all. At same stage it might not even possible to talk for some reason e.q. the missing ability to speak a language for example.

Often just small things make a big difference. This one second expiring the “unexpected” does make the difference. One day I still remember very well, I opened the letters shipped two weeks ago and nearly about 14000Km away. Something small for sure, but intended to honor friendship …. until today I keep it like a treasure. At least for me it is ONE!
