Season Opening

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Running my bike on a seasonal license plate for me the season does open on Apr, 1st. Now after 5 month of a break and all the cold and ugly winter weather you might imagine how keen I am ususaly to do the first few hundred kilometres.

Now this year it turned out perfectly. Starting with April the weather turned pleasant and all the weekend we had splendid conditions. Still somewhat fresh during the mornings, but lovely spring conditions during the day later on.

So last thursday evening I decided for the push bike to use. But after finishing all really necessary errands and jobs already friday evening and early saturday morning, all the time besides where "Suzi" time.

Leaving after luch on saturday I dod only 100Km running up and down one of my favorite bike tours here in the surroundings and headed after an ice cream to a school mate, I recently got in contact again after long 28 years we did not met one single time. It was pleasant and nice and we had coffee on their roof terrace out in the sun …. great.

And finally today and early this morning I joined a season opening tour organized by a guy offering guided motorbike tours and I once did make a website for. Not I would need a guide and to be honest I do not really like to rige in a bigger group as for the risk coming out of a gang of people always including a few going over their limits … you know?! Ambitions exceeded Abilities or so?

But today it worked out perfectly and without any hassle and it was pure fun riding up to 300Km and crossing the border to France several time. Should I mention the farmer steak with salad, french fries and heaps of garlic and later on a relaxed coffee and cake out in the sun as well?! ;-)

Hey, I rarely remember a more sunny and pleasant season opening like the one this year. Wishing more days like today to come! Thats tops! ;-)

First Ride?

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

The week is the very first really friendly and sunny one this year. All over pleasant spring conditions and it getting constanly 1 or 2 °C warmer every day. And best news of all is, this conditions shall remain all the rest of the week and all weekend.

Yesterday I hadn’t a chance to do, but today I guess my stand for working will not really last very long and I’m already dreaming about some short working day and heading of for some ride soon.

To be honest I’m not even sure which bike I will prefer then. But does it matter?  Out in the sun … that is the aim! ;-)

Too many choices?

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Too many choices, too many toys?! You can only do one thing right?!

You’re right, that was one of the questions I asked myself lately when I went for that push bike.
And now indeed the last few weeks Suzi came a bit short not getting moved anymore. But this was mainly forced by weather (it’s really no fun riding at rain) or heaps of work preventing to head off and away even on the weekends.

Now today everything does fit. No urgent work to do, sun and try conditions and the tempting offer to join a group of bicycle enthusiasts. Now seriously considering about I ended up in following my inner feeling saying no. And after a satisfying breakfast I went for getting Suzi out of the garage and left for a great and also satisfying ride. You know? The greed for speed!

But after three hours I had enough, even challenged myself a bit by staying close behind another bike nearly having double as much horse powers than mine for nearly 30km always coming close again in turns and sharp and narrow pieces of the roads, and headed home again for coffee and cake (plum cake! mmmh).

And guess! It’s still time, light and sunny outside and now after this short break, I will even be able to head off again and move the second bike as well. Thats Tops! ;-)

ps: Quick add. At the end I made it up to 60km. Sadly during the last 10km or so it started to rain and I had to spend an extra hour cleaning the gear and myself again.

The bicycle and I

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

I guess that to those, who have read my earlier posting about me getting a bicycle and felt as curious about as me, I do now owe an update.

Perhaps I have to pity you! But the nice gadget is not just staying around in the basement. I used it quit a few times so far and have to say that I more and more appreciate using it.

Sure it has no engine and pushing it yourself still seems somehow odd to me, but slowly we both … the bike and me  … are growing together.

Not being really convinced about my own decision at first, I went for some good priced mid-range bike. Being aware that buying too cheap and quickly feeling happy anymore would spoil fun, I procrastinated buying all other equipment around. Therefore handicapped a bit, the first two or so rides getting familiar with the gear and not wearing appropriates clothes were mixed indeed. But not feeling bounced in general I quickly made effort getting the "rest" like the real biker dress, click pedals and shoes and drinking bottles and stuff also and since then things improved rapidly.

Especially about the click pedals I had very mixed feelings and hesitated mounting them. But being on my own on a sunday, I decided about yet or never and called myself a nerd not doing earlier…. Doesn’t I play with up to 20 or so different functions on the "real" bike while driving all the time?!  … and got on and well with them pretty quick.

Speaking about being on my own, I found out about I more prefer riding with my pushy alone as for it gives me the pleasure of being able to do it my way … not feeling forced to keep up with others.

My way?! Never being really very sportive myself I’m pretty happy about to do around 30km in about 1,5 hours or so right now. I’m aware this does not sound impressive, but perhaps you should try it yourself and you will find out about it requires being in motion constantly. As there are always some reasons slowing you down for a few seconds.

The actual magically border  seems to be around 50km for me … Not that I couldn’t do more, but that is the point when I do finally start to feel like a break and a specific part of me (my b..) does start to hurt! :-|

But honestly, it does look like the bicycle and I have found together seriously. Being a very terrible individualist all my life, I never was able to cope and addict with clubs and for example regularly scheduled trainings ever wednesday.

And therefor I really do enjoy the flexibility the new toy is offering me for exercising purposes. :-)

tired

Recently I feel more and more tired! :-|

Originally I had planned a bike trip into the alps for this week. Four days away from all and blowing me the wind around the helmet running one pass through the alps after another!

But following the weather forecast which just announced cold and rainy conditions for all the mountain region I decided to drive into the other direction following the promised sunny conditions heading to Belgium instead.

Now on half the way there after the 2nd hot coffee in a cafe close to the road and me going for my removable fleece out of my motorbike jacket I decided to return early. There is nothing more worse than getting through and through wet on a bike on a cold and ugly day!

Guessing that I unfortunately just missed the sunny and gorgeous conditions one week ago not being able to leave earlier because of a lot of appointments I had during this time.

But now suddenly being freed from all tasks and slowing down a bit I nearly can feel tiredness jumping on me. Used to usually sleeping around 6 hours a night, actually I still feel tired after 8 or 9 hours of sleep!!

Hey guys keep me busy! Where are the gorgeous new projects to deal with? I still can sleep when I’m dead …. ;-)
