Qantas and no end ….

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

From principle I like to travel with Qantas and I did quit a few times already. So earlier this year I called them asking for some connections and later on did book them then finally. So far so good ….

The day after booking there were some questions and at first they insisted on placing my wife and me into two different aircrafts, but after talking with them again all was solved soon and I got the obvious email confirmations send by them.

Now this was in early february …

Since then they called me at least up to ten times re-scheduling flights and time lines again and again. One time they told me that now daylight saving was adjusted in their systems and therefore the departure time would change one hour. 😐

Since when do we have this confessed "senseless" daylight saving time change?!

Anyway, they are friendly, helpfully and do care …. Just I wonder why the hell it is that difficult to arrange some flights – especially when i give them so much time in advance.  And what I really do not understand is why they call me and make me confirming and repeating the info that a flight departure time has changed 5 minutes. Hey, I could and would read it within their emails of course, no need to treat me like a 5 years old.

Guess it is just to ensure I can’t sue them in case I would miss the flight though. 😐

The Roo

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

This morning all the radio news were full of a roo (Kangaroo) seen independently by several different persons here during the last few weeks. Obviously it must have recently escaped out of some animal park or similar.

Now yesterday evening a lady driving a car must have been scared by it sitting on a bridge across the Autobahn watching interested the traffic below. For sure seeing incoming traffic on the "wrong" lane and curious German traffic signs must have appeared strange to the poor little roo …. But was this really enough reason for her calling police though?

Anyway! The lady obviously feeling irritated by the foreign stranger did call police and in the follow several police men did try to hunt down the fugitive. Thanks god … I say … the little fellow was clever enough to escape and thinking about how much fun it is seeing them hipping around … I’m now nearly tempted to ……………………

Now wondering about how many of them it would need to get something ready like a survivable population here in Germany?!

Luck!

Yesterday on a hot and lovely summer day I was "flying" low and fast with Suzi. After a small repair and a general maintenance she was running fine and smooth again and driving her was fun pure.

Since a while I was anyway looking for some nice spot to stop for a break and cool drink, but unfortunaltely after 2 hours out in the heat I must have been more exhausted and tired than assumed and therefore distacted, recognising the read lights on the car in front of me was done late … too late.

And seeing the car slowing done was quit giving me the sureness I am too close, but thanks god seeing something and reacting for me is one thing and therefore I had closed down breakes fully and immediately already. None the less there was the fact about I was already too close ….

As ususally in such situations the rear tire of Suzi did block and start to slide … she is old and never has heard about things like ABS … and therefore I  had to open breakes again. But this tiny bit of sliding had given me a little spin to the left which I now increase as much as possible, but finally I had to upright her taking care about the incoming traffic on the left lane already close. And from then on there was nothing more than slowing down Suzi as much as possible.

The move to the left, happily had prevented a total impact, but not finnally touching the car in front with my mirror and stuff. :-/

Luckily I ended up staying on both feet holding Suzi with both hands leaning to the right, just  a few cm about ground. It must be the lost weight of Kerstin … at some stage poor her had decided to jump off the bike (with harming  herself) … the panic and therefore the adrenaline which gave me the power to upright Suzi again. Not really an easy thing to do with her round about 240kg though.

At the end sitting again on upright Suzi  I really needed a few seconds until I recognised and saw a guy (the other driver) speaking quickly and hecktically to me. Thanks god there was really nothing than a brocken backlight and a scratch … Suzi had nothing – at least nothing you would mind to see on a 17 years old motorbike … and we even got invited to a cool drink while exchanging driver details by the other party. And later on we even were able to continue and finish our trip until late and while driving I had a short (one sided) and sweet chat with my guardian angel saying thanks for a well done and great job.

Silence

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Lately I’ve recognised that I haven’t posted here for over an month. Now you could call that silence … Wikipedia is defining it as: "Silence is the relative or total lack of audible sound" … but I think this wouldn’t be fair.

And honestly, I wasn’t just in the mood to say (better write) much here. To be confessed, for quit a few days I felt grumpy with myself and the rest of to world (no one in particular), but this passed quick and the other time I was just busy with stuff and didn’t even recognise another day had passed without blog post.

For example I found it fancy and fun to update my private network at home and people knowing me might get or assume that this is more about than just an afternoon reconfiguring a router or so. But speaking about routers I might use the chance here point out that I’ve decided to use get some Apple Airport Extreme routers as the backbone equipment of my home lan, now having Gigabit Ethernet and a 802.11n WDS Wifi network, interacting with my older Linksys WRT54G routers, and feeling very happy with all.

A few others things came along as well for sure, like there were a short and sweet business trip to Copenhagen, which ended with me very pleased and feeling happy about the positive feedback I got later on about. Another highlight this month was a weeding, I was invited to join as a guest. And finally and more unpleasant, my dad in laws was brought into hospital with and unknown but serious indication.

Thanks god he got better soon and the treatment there did help him very much!

So as you can see …. I indeed was quiet lately …. I might be again, as I simply actually do not have much to say. Just this does not really mean my life is quiet though. At least you know now I’m fine. And perhaps … tomorrow, or the day after there will be something else worth to write about though.
