Too many choices?

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Too many choices, too many toys?! You can only do one thing right?!

You’re right, that was one of the questions I asked myself lately when I went for that push bike.
And now indeed the last few weeks Suzi came a bit short not getting moved anymore. But this was mainly forced by weather (it’s really no fun riding at rain) or heaps of work preventing to head off and away even on the weekends.

Now today everything does fit. No urgent work to do, sun and try conditions and the tempting offer to join a group of bicycle enthusiasts. Now seriously considering about I ended up in following my inner feeling saying no. And after a satisfying breakfast I went for getting Suzi out of the garage and left for a great and also satisfying ride. You know? The greed for speed!

But after three hours I had enough, even challenged myself a bit by staying close behind another bike nearly having double as much horse powers than mine for nearly 30km always coming close again in turns and sharp and narrow pieces of the roads, and headed home again for coffee and cake (plum cake! mmmh).

And guess! It’s still time, light and sunny outside and now after this short break, I will even be able to head off again and move the second bike as well. Thats Tops! ;-)

ps: Quick add. At the end I made it up to 60km. Sadly during the last 10km or so it started to rain and I had to spend an extra hour cleaning the gear and myself again.

Big Cars

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Yesterday I was on a business trip paid on company Euros of a big company and for security and insurance reasons they insisted my travelling with some of their pool cars.

Now there are a lot of people complaining about big and expensive cars are no longer sense- and meaningful these days in times of global warming, environment pollution and fading out oil reserves. And I for sure agree with them ….. but but ….

So back to yesterday. Leaving the house late I was a bit on a run heading to this car pool picking up my rental car. But while entering the yard I directly got aware about some eye catcher waiting there.

And can you imagine my face when they did hand over me the key to exactly this car?!

It was a charming, insinuating and deluxe edition of an Audi A5 Coupe Quattro 3.2 litre FSI Turbo Diesel (yeah you get! the diesel was the confession to environment) with leather interior and all the other nice and expensive gadgets it needs in such a car.

Seriously! Although I really see that point about the environment …. such a car can make your heart laugh. Sad I had to end trying to run it up to the max around 230km/h as for there were just too much cars on the road at that time.

Next time then! ;-)

Noticeable Serials

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Recently on monday Microsoft announced that they will make effort locking down noticeable software license keys.
Nothing to say about that. They write software and want to sell it ….

But tell me! What is a noticeable software license key? They on I bought with and found  on my old notebook?

Sure it is a nice and helpfully arrangement new systems today are bundled and offered with some valid OS license key keeping costs low and giving me the feeling I’m doing right. But what about the system gets old and I buy a new one and don’t like the new burning software on it and rather would prefer going on to use the older one I’m used to used from my prior hardware?

What about the old hardware is still functional and working and I’m going to sell it on eBay?

Sure the license keys will go with the hardware, but what about the changing owner? Will this new owner then have such a noticeable software license key?

I really do understand Microsoft and other companies. But isn’t the problem also forced by them and there more than archaic licencing modells?

Today in times of fast broadband internet connections you of don’t even get an installation medium. You download the software and request a valid serial key online easy paid by paypal or credit card.

Where the hell there is a problem to found something similar than the internet domain registration services to buy and administer your license keys online? Even perhaps on some time limited base?

Sometimes I don’t need the whole cake for ever. What about buying a Creative Studio or Office license for a quarter of a year with the option to get a cheap and easy renewing?

In my eyes it is about time for those big software companies to think about new and creative licencing modells.

Just my 5ct on that! ;-)

Apple can de-install iPhone software from remote!

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Sometimes I think it really doesn’t matter what news is written about a company.
Good or not … there was a news about and people get curious about … that is the aim and that is what we want!

Now knowing about the rumours about Apple has a build in backdoor within the new Apple iPhone 3G were recently confirmed by Steve Jobs …. indeed make me thinking about.

But not about the company or the product itself. Instead I’m more thinking about whether or not I do like that.

Do I really want a company being able to de-install  software fromsomething I have bought from them?

They got my money and I got the phone … now it is mine and it is up to me deciding about which software I run on it.
What ever they tell me it is good for they have such an option, I’m seriously and absolutely sure about I don’t NEED it!

Guess it needs some firewall software soon for this gadget. ;-)

Haribo Vampis

Monday, August 11th, 2008

All my life I have to have a close eye on my weight. Not that it would have been very bad in general, but working in an office job I have the tendency to slowly take weight over the time. On the other hand I can loose it rapidly again when I first have got seriously aware about it is necessary again.

This is for sure also depending on a few factors like workload, stress and emotional situation, but also on a few other more or less individual, ‘human’ and personal issues or hmpf .. weaknesses?!  :-|

Unfortunately there are a few really really devilish things out there I hardly can pass or stop consuming then once started. The real big problems are for sure icecream (personally I die for hazelnut icecream), saltletts (mini pretzels) and especially for jelly babies. Gulp!

Now from time to time I go shopping at some bigger retailer store which selling everything in extra big boxes …. like Haribo Vampi boxes with 150 pieces each at 1.5kg. Yummm …. delicious little ‘bates’ with fruit juice sweetened jelly wings and liquorice bodies …. You would love them too! The devil itself must have invented them. Really!!

Thanks god  from time to time the scale is telling me the finally and ultimate truth (which by the way was obviously also without) forcing me make effort again. Guess it’s about time now! ;-)
