Playing

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

I know that a lot of people have fun using their computers, playstations, gamepads, handhelds or mobile phones for playing games. That is ok for sure, a big business to make money … and at the end everyone should do at his or her pleasure anyway.

Personally I’m not much into this kind of amusement. I was never ever really good in driving a car on a TV screen and besides SimCity and a few early DOS based computer games I’ve never did spend much time with "games".

So when I speak about playing with my computers, I’m talking about spending time with them discovering something new. Learning or modify things and therefore making them able to do or serve things they couldn’t do before.

Last few days I did spend time playing with my new toys which I have mentioned earlier before. It was good time and I learned a lot about it and got a deeper idea about the concepts behind. Now it would not have been even necessary, as for I got an unlocked version I couldn’t prevent to read about the "breaking it" instructions and knowing about was the "point of no return" starting to "play" with it.

Today now feeling prepare enough, I finally did it … a full cycle through all … ending up in restoring initial and original state again. Somewhere in between I must have missed something as for not all features did work in "broken" mode as wished.

But this is nothing I do mind - it was no wated time at all - just the intro into another "playing session". And I’m sure it will not last long until I can’t resist anymore, starting again with it. ;-)

Sure it is not necessary …. but it is possible!

Happy New Year

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

I nearly can’t believe that it is now nearly a year since I’ve started this blog here, shortly after I had moved to a new hosting provider. At the end and shortly before leaving I had felt very grumpy about the former one, but now since hosting with MT - and even they have trouble too sometimes - I feel happy again and can’t complain about their service.

But also this blog and blogging on it has become some likely behavior for me and I would like to use the chance today to say thanks to all my followers here!
And for sure to wish everyone reading this a Happy New Year 2009. May this new 2009 become some happy, lucky and successfully year for all of us!

Michael :-)

My Top 10 iPhone Apps

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

As ususaly when I like something, I ask myself now about "Why didn’t I went earlier for one?!" :-|

Anyway! Since a few days I own one of this shiny iPhones and after a few minutes playing with it, it has become one of my favorites toys ever.

Sure at first was just another new phone and needed a few minutes really getting familiar with it first. But everything seems so easy with it that looking into it’s manual really seems to be wasted time to me. Setting up email (even my own domains) was done easily and with a smile I remembered my first tries setting it up on a Siemens Mobile a few years back.

An now after a few days and finally figuring out about it’s installable apps it is not longer just a another new phone … No instead it is an always ready and running little helper for nearly everything I can imagine.

After asking a friend about hers’  and installing a few apps I had already heard about, I strolled Apple Store looking for more and here now is my very own Top 10 list of iPhone Apps:

  • Air Sharing - Setting up your iPhone as WLAN  drive
  • AroundMe - Information about things around you
  • Evernote - Capture information and sycronize it over your devices
  • fring - Multiprotocol Chat client including (VoIP)
  • ifFound - Stores contact information as wallpaper
  • iHandy - Free Level
  • MotionX GPS lite - GPS system
  • NetNewsWire - RSS Reader
  • TouchTerm - mobile ssh-client
  • TwitterFon - Twitter Client

I find it hard to stay with 10 here as announce. It looks like I’ve installed millions and find it hard not being able to speak about online access to public transportation info about busses and trains in realtion to your actual position, online translation helpers, unit converter, Hotspot finder, Internet Radio, Google Earth and Ebay interfaces and and and ….

But here we are, and i’m sure about you will find your own Apps yourself! (Did I already mention the customized Admin Panel for iPhone offered by my hosting provider?) ;-)

My new iPhone

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Some one out there tried the Red Wine Cake recipe?   it’s still time to do and worth it ;-)

I always was looking at those Apple iPhone with mixed feelings. For sure it does not really need much to convince me about getting some new gadget, but on the other hand I value usefulness and their price before buying anything. But to be honest the biggest hurdle preventing me to buy such an iPhone instantly, were the more or less impertinent expensive T-Online contracts you obligate had to buy together with them. How nice must it be to have some monopoly… And how sad to loose it again! ;-)

Now again and again looking for those toys, I recently found out about them now are offered in Italy without a Simlock and even contract. Just I hesitate to buy one over the internet and sending money in advance - to companies which mainly on their pages, does not even publish a contact address.

But asking friends and mates here for help, I found out about a beautiful lady I know was right about heading to Italy a few days ago and quickly asked she promised to pick one up for me there. :-)

And today with her being back, I guess it will be just hours until I’m able to play with my new baby.
She even promised to come along later and handing it over to me herself. Thats Tops!!

Emails

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Emails are such a thingy …. quickly written  and often not thought carefully enough about. Why does it seems to be sooooo much easier to write something into an email, instead of writing same thing down into a real mail?

Because email is an easy and quick to use medium? Perhaps because getting back feedback often in minutes does imply give us the feeling we are in some normal conversation and just discussing something without consequences for us?

Using email does not really mean we do not have to mind our words! And often I hear someone mentioning that he/she better would have mind their words before pushing the send button finally.

Just now I guess it’s known that I like to discuss things controversy and persistently, by following my ideas as long as I think about them as good and no other one is able to show or convince me  I’m wrong.

Now this morning I wrote an email with intention and I was aware about I would provoke with it. To be honest I was not really aware about all the attention I got later on about it. But now thinking about this evening I feel happy about I did press "send" this morning first.

The general discussion - and now I will  not go into details - has changed immediately after my email and now I’m really curious about to see how it will go on Monday with it again. Until then and seriously …. You all may have a nice weekend in between.
